 Born in Turznice (Poland), he was active in Berlin, Meiningen, Paris, Dresden and Bern. He was a close friend of the Russian anarchist and revolutionary Mikhail Bakunin. Adolf was the progenitor[선조, 선배] of a dynasty of musicians that has continued to this day. It includes violinists Henri Ern and Karl, Suzanne, Anton and Regina Reichel, organist and conductor Helmuth Reichel, singer and actress Helen Vita, pianist Andreas Reichel, guitarist, singer and tangoist Mathis Reichel, flautist Jean-Luc Reichel (several of whom also composed), as well as trumpeter Giuliano Sommerhalder and oboist Simon Sommerhalder.
