Giovanni Battista Viotti (12 May 1755 – 3 March 1824) was an Italian violinist whose virtuosity was famed and whose work as a composer featured a prominent violin and an appealing lyrical tunefulness. He was also a director of French and Italian opera companies in Paris and London. He personally knew Joseph Haydn and Ludwig van Beethoven.[19세기 바이올린 연주 악파의 주요 창시자이다.
Giovanni Battista Viotti (1755-1824) was an Italian/French/English violinist and composer. Born near Turin in the Kingdom of Sardinia, he moved to Paris, and then to London during the French Revolution. A contemporary of Mozart, he did for the violin concerto what Mozart did for the piano, composing around 30 of them and setting the model for future generations. At least 17 of his concerti have been rearranged as piano concerti (and 2 more as flute concerti) by a variety of composers, both contemporary and later.
This one, based on his Violin Concerto #25,[https://youtu.be/-y4RxL1hlCM ]was arranged by Jan Ladislav Dussek. Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giovann... IMSLP: https://imslp.org/wiki/Category:Viott...
Jan Ladislav Dussek (or Dusik) (1760-1812) was a Czech/English composer. He spent time in the Netherlands, Germany, Russia, and France, before also leaving Paris for London during the Revolution, though he did eventually return to France near the end of his life. He composed over a dozen original piano concertos, in addition to arranging no less than 3 of Viotti's concertos like this one. He previously arranged concertos #13 and #23 as wIa.5 and wIa.7. The latter has been recorded, though I haven't yet found it. A mostly complete score is available on IMSLP. The first apparently hasn't been recorded either, but I do not have a score available. Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_Lad... IMSLP: https://imslp.org/wiki/Category:Dusse...
Movements: 0:00 - I. Andante Pastorale - Allegro Agitato E ben marcato 13:04 - II. Andante 17:20 - III. Savoyard Air - Rondo. Allegretto
For the current concerto, it appears that, like Hüllmandel the last time, he was working from an older edition, as his rendition has some significant deviations from the final violin concerto, and is also missing parts for the clarinets and timpani. I have added those parts back in, using the violin concerto as reference. This was no small task as the two works don't 100% line up (the first movement is somewhat longer in the piano version, oddly, perhaps to make up for the fact that there isn't a cadenza, nor anywhere to put one. The second movement does have a cadenza, which is very different from the violin version, though that's to be expected.) And the clarinet parts appear to have been incorrectly transposed. The score identifies them as being in the key of A, which would make sense for this piece, but what's written seems to be for standard Bb clarinets? Not sure, but it's definitely off by a whole tone, I've fixed it as best as I can. ---- This is the second of 4 piano concerto arrangements of Viotti's violin concertos which have not been recorded and for which I have full manuscripts available, so look forward to more of these. The only one I've heard recorded is the wIa.9, based on Violin Concerto #19, arranged by friend-of-the-channel Daniel Steibelt. Here are two very different performances of it:

• Giovanni Battista Viotti: Piano Concerto i...

• Giovanni Battista Viotti (1755-1824) - Pia... All of Viotti's violin concertos have been recorded multiple times, and are easy enough to find, though it would be far too many to link them all. But the original version of the concerto used to make this arrangement can be heard here:

• Giovanni Battista Viotti - Violin Concerto... Likewise, most of Dussek's original concerti have been recorded multiple times. It's again, too many to link here, but they can be found fairly easily. Disclaimer: Yes, it's synthesized. Obviously real musicians with real instruments would be vastly superior, but this simulated performance is better than nothing at all, which is what existed previously. My greatest wish is that these videos will inspire someone with the means to arrange a real performance and hopefully record and publish it so we can hear them in their full glory. If that someone is you, or you know of an existing recording of this, please let me know and I may add a link to this description.
