Juro Tkalčić
(1877-1957) Juro Tkalčić was a Croatian cellist and composer.
After studing cello in Zagreb, he left in 1895 and began playing in various orchestras and chamber ensembles all over Europe. Beginning in 1900 he lived in Paris, where he earned a reputation as a top chamber musician. In 1920 he returned home and became a professor at the Zagreb Conservatory. He left several compositions in a rich Romantic style, including a string quartet, a cello concerto
and many salon compositions, often using Croatian folk idioms.
