Charles-Marie Jean Albert Widor(21 February 1844 – 12 March 1937) was a French organist, composer and teacher most notable for his ten organ symphonies.

Dedicatee possibly/probably Frédéric Émile d'Erlanger (1832-1911), father of Frédéric Alfred d'Erlanger the composer and of musicologist Rodolphe. Details by Edition Silvertrust: The Piano Trio in B flat Major, composed around 1875, illustrates that Widor was not only a fine melodist but in complete control of compositional technique. The lovely and sophisticated opening Allegro clearly shows that the young Widor had already adopted the new French school of composition which was just coming into its own. The delicate and exquisite Andante con moto quasi moderato is an updated version of a baroque Sarabande. Next comes a marvelous, lively Scherzo which starts off lightly and moves to a compelling second theme and then back to a elves dance. The trio is somber and darker in tonal color. The finale, a light and swift Presto, both charms and excites with its vitality.
