Mikhail Glinka

The first Russian composer to gain wide recognition within his own country, and is often regarded as the fountainhead of Russian classical music. Glinka's compositions were an important influence on future Russian composers, notably the members of The Five, who took Glinka's lead and produced a distinctive Russian style of music.

A chamber work for piano, two violins, viola, cello and double bass by Russian composer Mikhail Glinka (1804-1857), who is considered the father of Russian classical music. This piece is based on themes from the opera "La sonnambula" ("The Sleepwalker"몽유병자) by Italian composer Vincenzo Bellini (1801-1835). Glinka composed another piano sextet in the same year (1832) - the Grand Sextet in E flat major. on the EMI album "Martha Argerich and Friends Live from the Lugano Festival, 2009", this recording is incorrectly labeled as the Grand Sextet.
