Ludwig Philipp Scharwenka (16 February 1847, in Samter, Grand Duchy of Posen – 16 July 1917, in Bad Nauheim) was a German composer and teacher of music. He was the older brother of Xaver Scharwenka.

"Sonata Fantasia" in G minor for viola and piano, Op.106

Allegro (11:44) Lise Berthaud, viola and Oliver Triendl, piano Philipp Scharwenka's Viola Sonata in g minor dates from 1899 and is in three movements which were intended to be played without pause. The opening movement movement, Moderato, is also marked Fantasia and is in very free form and includes several virtuosic recitativs. The second movement is a charming Allegretto, while the finale is a riveting Allegro. The final two movements are welded together by the use of passages from the fantasia movement.
