Józef Władysław Krogulski - Piano Concerto in E-major

Bawoo 2014. 11. 2. 10:51

Jósef Władysław Krogulski

(1815~1842/폴란드 음악가)

The pianist, composer and teacher Jósef Władysław Krogulski, who wrote music for piano, orchestra, chamber ensembles and voice (including one opera), was born in Tarnów on October 4, 1815, and died in Warsaw on the 9th of January 1842. He was a much more versatile composer than his compatriot Chopin, as he composed 3 masses, an Octet for piano, strings, and winds, and a Piano Quartet. There are also 2 piano sonatas, a wealth of music for solo piano, and two piano concertos. Like Chopin, he suffered from tuberculosis, and died at only 27 years of age.

 Piano Concerto in E-major (1830/15세)

Mov.I: Allegro 00:00
Mov.II: Adagio 13:56
Mov.III: Rondo: Allegro 20:05

Pianist / Conductor: Howard Shelley
Conductor: Sinfonia Varsovia

The Piano Concerto (No. 1) in E Major was composed when the composer was only 15 years old, and is an assured piece of work. The scoring is more skilled than Chopin's and the orchestra has a somewhat more active role in the proceedings than it has in the music of the elder Pole. After an opening movement full of martial pomp and electrifying virtuosity the succeeding Adagio offers some respite, as well as its own share of drama. This is followed by a rondo finale that offers its fair share of virtuosity (sometimes at the expense of some musical substance) and brings the concerto off to a nonetheless satisfying conclusion.

I. Allegro 0:00
II. Adagio 14:10
III. Rondo: Allegro 20:20
