The Violin Concerto in G major, Op. 46, written in 1857 by Anton Rubinstein and published by C.F. Peters in 1859 with a dedication to violinist Henryk Wieniawski, is a Romantic concerto. It is his only violin concerto, written when he was 28, which was the time when the establishment of a professional conservatory in Russia was under discussion, thus the concerto was unjustly neglected. The three movements provide an admirable opportunity for virtuoso performance. However there is nothing particularly Russian about the work, rather showing the fine craftsmanship of a Mendelssohn and an undoubtedly professional technical command of structure and orchestration.

Structure

The concerto is in three movements:

  1. Moderato assai
  2. Andante
  3. Moderato assai
