Christian August Sinding (11 January 1856 – 3 December 1941) was a Norwegian composer.

He is known for his lyrical works for piano, such as Frühlingsrauschen (Rustle of Spring, 1896).

 He was often compared to Edvard Grieg and regarded as his successor.

Hovering in the background is the sonata, but the composer moves freely and easily one musical form to another. Both compositions have no fewer than five movements, and space is found for variations of character, tempo, time and cantilene as
opposed to virtuosity. The piano tends to be accorded an accompanying role, but terms of thematic development both compositions are veritable romps and give full rein to the instrumental displays that are so distinctive a hallmark of Sinding'smusic
