Johann Gottfried Hugo Schuncke (1823-1909) came from a musical family. His father, Johann Gottfried, had a career as a hornist In Kassel and Stuttgart, and he trained several of his sons to be musicians. one of them, Johann Gottfried Hugo, usually known as Hugo Schuncke, became a court violinist in Stuttgart. He also composed, counting among his works a double concertino, which he called a “concertante” for violin, cello and orchestra and an oboe concerto (one of the few such works from the 19th Century).
