Xaver Scharwenka wrote his only Symphony in 1882, in the key of C minor. It is scored for 2 flutes, 2 piccolos, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets (B♭), 2 bassoons, 4 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones (2 tenor, 1 bass), timpani, triangle, & strings. The first public performance of this Symphony was on 1 December 1883 in Copenhagen, Denmark, under the composer's direction.
