Lambert Kraus - Serenata F Major, Op. 2, No. 2 (1762)
(Philipp Josef Anton) Lambert Kraus OSB (Pfreimd, 17 September 1728 - Mettem, 27 November 1790) German priest and composer. After joining the Metten monastery in 1747 and professing in 1748, Lambert Kraus was (deputy) director of the monastery seminary and from 1752 teacher of the boys' choir. In the following years he also held the offices of President of the Brotherhoods, Collegiate Preacher, Prior and Novice Master in the monastery. In 1766 he was also appointed parish vicar of the Stephansposching parish supervised by the Metten monastery. After Abbot Adalbert Tobiaschu's resignation, he was elected as the new Abbot of Metten on October 9, 1770. The abbot, who was himself a talented composer and musician, was particularly interested in the singing school and the promotion of music in the monastery. However, due to high expenditures for proper representation and a lack of economic competence, abbot Lambert Kraus, left his successor Cölestin Stöckl with a considerable amount of debts, which he had reduced with thrift and economic skill by 1803, when the monastery was abolished in the course of the secularization. In addition to music, Abbot Lambert Kraus was also interested in physics and experimented with electricity. He was considered an outstanding preacher. His skills in Latin stylistics earned him the reputation of a "Mettener Cicero". In addition, Abbot Lambert Kraus was a member of the prelate class in the electoral administrative district of Straubing. Sections: Marche.
