String Quintet No. 1,  in A major, Op. 18=

The String Quintet No. 1 in A major, Op. 18, was composed by Felix Mendelssohn in 1826 and

revised in 1832. The piece is scored for two violins, two violas and cello.

Like all of Mendelssohn's string quartets, this work has four movements:

1. Allegro con moto
2. Intermezzo: Andante sostenuto
3. Scherzo: Allegro di molto
4. Allegro vivace

A typical performance lasts just under 30 minutes.

1978 멘델스존의 현악 5중주 제2번은 많이 알려진 곡은 아니지만, 도발적인 도입부분으로 시작하여 작품 내내 상쾌함과 청명함을 느끼게 하는 상당히 맑은 곡이라 말하고 싶다. 이 곡은 깨끗하고 밝은 분위기의 곡이기도 하지만, 3악장 아다지오에서는 자신의 삶을 회고해 보는 듯, 관조적인 소리와 느낌을 전달하기도 한다.[Kim's Sound]

 

The String Quintet No. 2 in B flat major, Op. 87, was composed by Felix Mendelssohn in 1845, when Mendelssohn was around 36 years old. The piece is scored for two violins, two violas and cello.

Movements

Like all of Mendelssohn's string quartets, this work has four movements:

2. Andante scherzando
3. Adagio e lento
4. Allegro molto vivace

It was published posthumously in 1851 (described by its first publisher, Breitkopf und Härtel,

as No. 16 der nachgelassenen Werke.)
