Manuel Manrique de Lara was a Spanish composer, commander in the Spanish Navy and musicologist.

He studied music under the guidance of Ruperto Chapí and studied folklore of the Maghreb and Eastern Europe . He helped disseminate in Spain the works of Wagner.

Although he composed symphonic and chamber music, highlighted by the music scene. His first important work is a musical trilogy heavily influenced by Richard Wagner entitled "The Oresteia" (consisting of Agamemnon , The Libation Bearers and The Euménidas ) and dedicated to his teacher Ruperto Chapí . The work was premiered by Thomas Breton in 1890 .

Lara also composed a zarzuela Citizen Simon , in 1900 , and the trilogy cidiana formed by Rodrigo and Jimena , The Siege of Zamora (based on the siege of Zamora ) and Mio Cid , released in Madrid ( 1906 - 1911 ).
