바가텔(Bagatelle)

바가텔(Bagatelle)은 클래식 음악에서의 피아노를 위한 성격 소품 중의 하나로, ‘가벼운 작품’이라는 뜻을 지니고 있다. 종종 두 부분 또는 세 부분으로 구성된 리트 형식을 취하며, 명칭부터가 대곡 작곡 과정에서 흘러내린 악상이나 우연한 착상에 의해 손쉬운 손놀림으로 쓰인 것이라는 의미가 강하다. 그러나 나름대로의 맛도 있고, 바가텔이라는 이름에 다소나마 도회가 느껴진다는 점에서 일반적인 악곡들과는 다소 다른 위치를 갖는 것이 많다. 정해진 형식은 인정되지 않고, 곡의 길이도 3분 정도로 정해진 것에서부터 단편적인 짧은 것까지 다양하다. 쿠프랭이 처음으로 클라브생 곡집에서 이 이름을 사용하였고, 베토벤 또한 피아노를 위한 소곡에 이 이름을 사용하였다. 이와 같은 경향은 19세기의 성격 소품에 계승되..
