러브스토리(영어: Love Story)는 에릭 시걸이 1970년에 쓴 로맨틱 소설이다. 부유한 하버드생 올리버 배럿 4세와 래드클리프 여대의 고학생 제니퍼 캐빌레리 배럿의 비극적인 사랑 이야기를 담았다. 같은 해 12월, 라이언 오닐과 알리 맥그로우 주연의 영화로 제작되어 흥행에서도 큰 성공을 거두었다. 1977년 속편 《Oliver's Story》가 출판되었다.

Love Story is a 1970 romantic drama film written by Erich Segal, who was also the author of the best-selling novel of the same name. It was directed by Arthur Hiller and starred Ryan O'Neal, Ali MacGraw, John Marley, Ray Milland and Tommy Lee Jones in his film debut in a minor role.

A tragedy, the film is considered one of the most romantic by the American Film Institute (#9 on the list) and one of the highest grossing films in U.S history.^[2] It was followed by a sequel, Oliver's Story (1978), starring O'Neal with Candice Bergen.

본명은 에릭 울프 시걸. 예일대학교에서 고전 및 비교문학을 가르치던 시절(1968~72) 소설 〈러브 스토리 Love Story〉(1970)를 출간해 베스트셀러가 되었다. 이 소설은 노동자 계급 출신의 여자와 부유한 집안 출신의 남자가 주인공으로, 집안의 반대를 무릅쓰고 결혼한 하버드대학생 부부의 사랑을 다룬 감성적이고 눈물샘을 자극하는 이야기이다.

시걸은 또한 라이언 오닐과 알리 맥그로가 주연하여 블록버스터로 제작된 영화 〈러브 스토리 Love Story〉의 시나리오를 썼다. 이 영화는 총 2억 달러 가까이를 벌어들였고, 파산 위기를 맞고 있던 파라마운트 영화사를 구했다고 알려졌다. 그의 작품들은 대중적으로 큰 성공을 거두었지만, 비평가들로부터는 전폭적인 찬사를 얻지 못했다.
